GOALS - Is Wealth Limited?

How many times have you heard somebody say that there wouldn't be enough money to make everybody on earth rich? There just isn't enough to go around (or at least that's the theory).

Want to know why that's nonsense? First of all, more than half the people who have ever lived in all the history of mankind are alive today. That combined production power, if harnessed, could turn out more value, more service, more goods than ever before. Ever.

Second, and more importantly, money is not wealth. The ability to produce value for others is wealth.

Any tinpot government can turn out money by the wheelbarrow-fulls -- and they often do. When that happens, they induce what economists call galloping inflation, which makes people poorer, not richer. It makes them poorer because there's almost no real value behind the money.

So as long as some people have needs and problems to solve, other people will be figuring out better ways to serve those needs. And the generating of new wealth will always be the result.

The secret of wealth is learning to open yourself up to others. To be attentive to them and see what they need. Once you have that kind of awareness, it's just a matter of time before you recognize a problem that's interfering with the quality of many people's lives.

Apply a little imagination, some problem solving skills, exert some initiative and energy, and suddenly you are a person in great demand. People will need what you can do for them. They'll express their thanks very enthusiastically. And the most enthusiastic way of all will be with money.

Voila! Riches. And you've created them by relieving the discomfort of others.

And here, you've just read a description of alchemy. The creation of gold from base metal (symbolizing the creation of great value from something worthless).

Now there's a goal worthy of your highest dreams.
